Residents Bowl
Designed to foster a spirit of competition and Section pride, the AUA Residents Bowl is the not-to-be-missed event of AUA2022. Each of the eight AUA Sections will field a team of residents that includes one international trainee and go head-to-head in an ultimate battle of the brains. Now in its ninth year, the AUA Residents Bowl will test residents' knowledge in different urological subspecialties, the history of urology and important new research findings.
The Residents Bowl will be held in the Science & Technology Hall.

Brett Michael Giblin grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania before leaving to attend Harvard College. While there, he obtained a BA in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2011. He then entered the workforce for a few years before returning to Pennsylvania for medical school. He achieved his MD in 2018 at Geisinger Medical School in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and fell in love with Urology. He matched into Urology at the University of Vermont Medical Center where he is currently a PGY-4. Outside of medicine, he enjoys vacationing with his family, paddle boarding, golf, and fervently supporting the Cleveland Guardians.

Wesley Pate is a 4th year urology resident at Boston Medical Center, and is currently applying into Endourology fellowship. He grew up in the South just outside of Atlanta, and has been in Boston for many years as he went to Boston University for both college and medical school. Dr. Pate is a big Star Wars nerd, Atlanta Falcons superfan, and enjoys nearly every genre of music. When not in the hospital, he enjoys cycling in the neighborhoods around Boston and hiking in the White mountains.

Dr. Takanori Sekito was born and raised in Hyogo, Japan. He received his Medical Degree from Okayama University School of Medicine, Japan in 2017. He has been a Urology resident at Okayama University Hospital since 2019. Dr. Sekito has also been working as a researcher at the Department of Urology, Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Science since 2020. He is a lifelong jeopardy watcher and trivia-night attendee, and he dedicates his Resident Bowl performance to Alex Trebek, his dog Salvatore, and his wife Justine.

Christine Van Horn is a fourth year resident in the UMass urology residency program. A San Francisco native, she graduated with Highest Distinction from UC Berkeley and went on to complete a Masters in Science in stem cell biology at UCLA prior to medical school at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She has cultivated a passion for quality improvement research as well as endourology and minimally invasive surgery while at UMass and plans to pursue fellowship after graduation. She is excited to participate in the Residents Bowl and represent the New England Section.

Meredith was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. She did a brief stint playing field hockey for the Connecticut College Camels, after which she transferred to Boston University to pursue pre-medical studies. She spent a year in Washington, DC completing a Master’s at Georgetown University. She returned to Rhode Island to complete medical school and residency at Brown University. After residency she will complete FPMRS fellowship at NYU; she is a passionate advocate for women's urologic and sexual health. When she is not working, she enjoys the beach, exploring the Providence food scene and walks with her dog, Daisy.

Andrew Brodie is a UK trainee urologist in his fifth and final year of specialist urology training in the East of England area and currently working in Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. His subspecialty of choice is robotic uro-oncology and he intends to commence a fellowship in robotic surgery from October 2022. Dr. Brodie is very much looking forward to representing the United Kingdom in the Residents Bowl and is very grateful for the invitation and opportunity afforded by the American Urological Association.

Outside of work, Ezra enjoys traveling, making fresh homemade pasta, and cheering on the Mets. Claudia Collà Ruvolo is 29 years old and wished to be a doctor since she was young. After medical school, she started the residency program in Urology at the Federico II University of Naples. Now, she is attending the fourth year of the residency program. Dr. Collà Ruvolo loves both clinical and research activities and spent the second year of her training in Montreal for a research fellowship. She is very grateful for the experience she had in Canada, which has allowed her to grow a lot, especially in terms of data analysis. Her goal for the final year of the residency program is to do a Clinical Scholarship abroad to complement her professional training as much as possible.

Hari Vigneswaran is a native to Chicago and will be finishing up his last year of residency at UIC this upcoming summer. He has an interest in GU oncology and a research interest in prostate cancer. After graduation Dr. Vigneswaran will be moving to Sweden to work clinically in Stockholm and continue his research at the Karolinska Institute. Ernest Tong is from Arlington, TX and the first healthcare worker in the family. He was drawn to Urology because of the amazing mentors and staff that he worked alongside. Urology has a wide breadth of procedures and approaches for a single ailment where treatment is not always uniform or standard. He believes that urology requires attention to detail, surgical prowess, and creativity to be successful, and it is the culmination and never-ending drive to improve upon this that continues to propel him forward. Dr. Tong's particular interests lie in minimally invasive surgery and single port robotic surgery. He enjoys tennis and basketball in his spare time.

Ahmed comes from Egypt. He obtained his medical degree from Tanta University. He then completed his internship year as well as his urology residency at Tanta University hospitals. During his residency, Ahmed developed a keen interest in uro-oncology and minimal invasive urology. He is currently a first-year clinical fellow of uro-oncology. He also earned a master's degree in Urology in October 2020. When he is not in the OR, Ahmed enjoys sports, particularly playing tennis, reading and photography.

Dr. Sanam Ladi-Seyedian got her medical degree in Iran. During her medical school, she also worked at Pediatric Urology and Regenerative Medicine research center at Tehran University of Medical Science. Her research projects mostly centered around tissue engineering, pelvic medicine, and pediatric urology. She then joined University of Southern California as a research fellow in 2019. Her current research is focused on bladder and testis cancer. She has won multiple awards for presentations at different international conferences and has authored over 50 publications. She loves literature and plays Santoor, a traditional Persian musical instrument. In her free time, she likes to go hiking, doing nature photography, and traveling.
