American Urological Association Names New Chair of Global Initiatives

Baltimore, MD, March 10, 2015 - The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced Inderbir Gill, MD, MCh, has been appointed by the AUA Board of Directors to the newly created position of Chair, Global Initiatives. Dr. Gill will assume this new role effective June 1, 2015.

An active member of the urology community, Dr. Gill serves as the founding executive director of the University of Southern California (USC) Institute of Urology and as chairman and professor in the department of urology and associate dean of clinical innovation at USC's Keck School of Medicine. He was recently named by Reuters as one of "The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds."

In his new capacity leading the AUA's global programs, Dr. Gill will be responsible for helping to shape and execute the Association's International Education Plan, and will assist in identifying new global opportunities and collaborations with various national and multi-national urological societies. He will also work to maintain relationships with key urologists and other strategic partners across the globe, as well as serve as the editor of the AUA's award-winning publication, Global Connections.

"We greatly look forward to working with Dr. Gill as we continue our collaborations with the international urology community," said AUA Secretary Dr. Gopal Badlani, who co-chaired the search committee with Dr. John Denstedt, AUA Northeastern Section Board Representative. "We are confident he will play a key role in expanding and enhancing our programs, globally."

Dr. Gill has been recognized with multiple awards from the medical, surgical and urological communities, including the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, presented by the president of India, the St. Paul's Medal, presented by the British Association of Urologic Surgeons, and the USC Presidential Medallion, the highest annual academic honor bestowed by USC.

In addition to being a member of the AUA, Dr. Gill is a member of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons and the Clinical Society of GenitourinarySurgeons. Board-certified by the American Board of Urology, Dr Gill has authored more than 550 peer-reviewed scientific papers with over 8,500 citations and 10 text-books. Funded by the National Cancer Institute, he has been requested for more than 450 visiting professorships, invited lectures and live surgery demonstrations, world-wide. His area of expertise is robotic urologic oncologic surgery. Dr Gill is the Ramon Guiteras lecturer for the 2015 AUA Annual Meeting.
