American Urological Association Names New Editor Of Urology Practic®

BALTIMORE, Oct. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The American Urological Association (AUA) announced today J. Stephen Jones, MD, MBA, FACS as the incoming editor of Urology Practice, an official journal of the AUA. Dr. Jones currently is associate editor of Urology Practice, a role in which he will continue until he begins his three-year term as editor on January 1, 2020.

As Urology Practice editor, Dr. Jones will be responsible for the editorial content of the Journal, published in four areas – business, health policy, the specialty and patient care. He will also be responsible for working to improve the quality of manuscripts submitted and accepted, as well as advising the associate editor, section editors and editorial committee members.

"He is the best person for this role due to his depth of experience working with Urology Practice as associate editor and serving as editor of other journals. Dr. Jones has been an active AUA member since 1994. In addition to his current role as associate editor of Urology Practice, he has served as a member of the AUA Program Abstract Review Committee. He previously served on the AUA Guidelines Panel for Microscopic Hematuria.

A valuable asset to the urologic community, Dr. Jones is president and chief executive officer of Inova®, a leading non-profit healthcare system in the Washington, DC area. He is also a professor of Urology at the University of Virginia. Prior roles include president, department chair and chief of Surgical Operations at Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers, as well as professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Here, he held the Leonard Horvitz and Samuel Miller Distinguished Chair in Urologic Oncology (which has since been renamed the J. Stephen Jones Distinguished Chair in Urology Research). Castle Connolly lists Dr. Jones in "America's Top Doctors" signifying the top 1 percent of all urologists.

He has published 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and authored 40 book chapters. Dr. Jones previously presided as editor of Urology & Kidney Disease News, was associate editor of Urology and served on the editorial board of BJUI.
