BALTIMORE, Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Urology Care Foundation (UCF), the world's leading nonprofit urological health foundation and the official foundation of the American Urological Association (AUA), is pleased to announce Harris M. Nagler, MD, FACS, has been named president of its Board of Directors. Dr. Nagler will begin his two-year term as president on January 1, 2018.

Harris M. Nagler, MD, FACS

An active member of the UCF Board, Dr. Nagler will succeed Richard A. Memo, MD, who has led the Urology Care Foundation since 2014. During Dr. Memo's tenure, the Foundation focused its programmatic efforts on improving patients' lives and advancing urologic research and education. As a result, nearly $26 million has been raised over the last three years through fundraising efforts, grants and collaborations with patients, caregivers, families, healthcare professionals, researchers, physicians, corporate donors, affiliated organizations and the public.

"I am honored to continue my commitment to the Foundation and its mission in this new role," said Dr. Nagler. "Supporting and improving the prevention, detection and treatment of urological conditions and disease through research and education is part of the fabric of our profession. Continuing to do it here, with an organization of such stature and trustworthiness remains a privilege."

Over the last year, Dr. Nagler has helped drive the Foundation's outreach and development efforts, making great strides in establishing the UCF as the single largest resource for medically approved urologic patient education information and in supporting research funding for many of our young scientists dedicated to preventing, diagnosing and treating urologic conditions and diseases.

"Dr. Memo has been a remarkable leader and visionary for the Foundation," said AUA President, J. Brantley Thrasher, MD. "I'm confident Dr. Nagler, through his own wisdom and wealth of expertise, will continue the strong, inspired leadership to which we have grown so accustomed."

Dr. Nagler is Professor of Urology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He has been recognized numerous times in New York Magazine's Best Doctors, Best Doctors in America and the New York Times Super Doctors listings. Additionally, he has been listed in the Best Doctors in the United States and has been recognized in Becker's Hospital Review as one of the 130 Nonprofit Hospital Leaders to Know, as well as one of the 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.

He has served on the boards of many organizations, including the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction and the New York Section of the AUA. Dr. Nagler previously served as President of Beth Israel Medical Center and Chair of the Sol and Margaret Berger Department of Urology at Beth Israel Medical Center and Professor of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. At Beth Israel he also served as the Chief of Graduate Medical Education/Academic Affairs, the Program Director of the urology residency-training program, Chief Medical Officer and Physician-in-Chief.
