2023 MIPS Submission Checklist

As we gear up for 2023 MIPS reporting season, we encourage all our practices to review our 7-step checklist for a successful submission. Please see below:

Step 1:  Determine your 2023 MIPS eligibility status. Check the CMS QPP Participation Status Lookup Tool to determine if you are required to report.  MIPS eligibility statuses should be checked again at the end of 2023 for any changes.

Step 2:  Determine if you will report as an individual or a group. When reporting as a group, performance data is aggregated across the TIN for all clinicians. Clinicians in the group will receive the collective score of the group for all 4 MIPS categories.

Step 3:  Log into the AQUA Registry Dashboard and upload your Health Insurance Claims Form (CMS 1500 Form). Once your form is verified and approved, you may proceed to sign the Data Release Consent form (DRCF).

Step 4: Chose your quality measures. You will need to submit data for at least 6 quality measures, including one outcome measure or high priority measure in the absence of an applicable outcome measure. Data completeness and case minimum standards should be met for these 6 measures.

Step 5: Attest to the required amount of Improvement Activities (IAs). Review the 2023 list of IAs on your AQUA Registry Dashboard and determine which activities you are performing as part of your normal workflow.

Step 6: Determine if you can report for the Promoting Interoperability (PI) category. To report for the PI category, you must use an Electronic Health Record (EHR) that meets the 2015 Edition Cures Update certification criteria.

Step 7: Complete your 2023 MIPS submission via the AQUA Registry Dashboard. Note: The AQUA Registry’s internal MIPS submission deadline is March 15, 2024.

Additionally, your practice may be required to participate in a CMS mandated data validation audit of the MIPS data prior to submission to CMS by the AQUA Registry.
