American Urological Association Names New Officers and Board Members

Baltimore, MD, May 20, 2015 - The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced the following new officers and members to its Board of Directors:

William F. Gee, MD, FACS has been named AUA 2015-2016 president. Previously AUA president-elect, Dr. Gee has also served as AUA treasurer, AUA health policy chair, AUA Southeastern Section president, and AUA emissary to the AMA House of Delegates, as well as on numerous other committees. In addition, he served for more than 15 years as AUA representative to the AMA Relative Value Update Committee. Dr. Gee currently serves as clinical professor of surgery (urology), voluntary faculty, at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and emeritus urologist at Commonwealth Urology, Lexington, KY.

Richard Babayan, MD, has been named AUA 2015-2016 president-elect. Dr. Babayan has served on multiple AUA committees for more than 10 years and on the AUA Board of Directors as the New England Section representative. He is currently professor and chairman of the Department of Urology at Boston University School of Medicine and chief of Urology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Babayanalso serves as a mentor in the AUA Leadership Program and is a past AUA Research Scholar.

William W. Bohnert, MD, FACS, is now immediate past president of the AUA, having served as AUA 2014-2015 president. Dr. Bohnert was instrumental in supporting AUA Medicare reform and other advocacy-related efforts, leading the Board in advancing new strategic initiatives relating to AUA's data registry projects, closely coordinating and growing the Urology Care Foundation, and enhancing AUA collaborations with other urology groups. Additionally, he oversaw recruitment and selection of board physician consultants for several of AUA's major program areas.

Manoj Monga, MD, FACS, has been named the 2015-2019 AUA Secretary. Dr. Monga previously served as secretary-elect. In addition to these positions, he has been active on numerous AUA committees, including the Quality Improvement &amp, Patient Safety Committee, Abstract Committee, Urology Care Foundation Outreach Committee, and as chair of the North Central Section',s Education Committee. Dr. Monga has been a member of the AUA since 1997.

The AUA would like to welcome the following Section representatives to its Board of Directors:

Chandru Sundaram, MD, has replaced Stephen Y. Nakada, MD, FACS, as the North Central Section representative. Dr. Sundaram is currently professor of Urology and director of the Residency Program and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine.A member of the AUA since 1997, Dr. Sundaram has held multiple AUA leadership positions, including president of the AUA North Central Section, chair of the Laparoscopic, Robotics and New Surgical Technology Committee and member of the Education Council. He also completed the AUA Leadership Program in 2009.

Scott Swanson, MD, has replaced Jeffrey E. Kaufman, MD, FACS, as the Western Section representative. Dr. Swanson previously served as president of the AUA Western Section and in various capacities, including president-elect, program chair and secretary/treasurer, for the Arizona Urological Society. He is currently a consultant in the Department of Urology at Mayo Clinic and an associate professor of Urology in the Mayo School of Medicine. Dr. Swanson is also an active member of the American College of Surgeons.
