Future Urology Talent from Underrepresented Entities (FUTURE) in Urology Program
AUA's FUTURE in Urology (Future Urology Talent from Under-Represented Entities) is an incubator program for pre-clinical and third year URiM, URiU, and other medical students from all demographic backgrounds who are dedicated to increasing representation and more equitable health care.
It is designed to encourage these students to consider a career in urology. It will provide opportunities to network, develop longitudinal relationships, and cultivate diverse interest in our specialty.
The inaugural event was held in conjunction with AUA's Annual Meeting in April 2023. That event consisted of the following components:
- URiM 1st and 2nd year students from medical and DO schools were invited to participate with assistance of chairs, deans, and program directors.
- Mentors were selected from myriad subspecialties (endocrinology, oncology, men’s health, reconstruction, pediatrics, FPMRS, etc.), various ages, geographic locations and racial/ethnic/LGBTQ+ groups.
- Students spent the day with their assigned mentors to learn more about the practice of urology, specific subspecialties within urology and the various research and educational offerings of the AUA Annual Meeting.
Stay tuned for future events!
